   Tom Clark '69, president of the Duke Alumni Association, will serve as a voting member of Duke's board of trustees from 2007 to 2009. As DAA president-elect, he has been a non-voting member since 2005.
   
   Clark, who is in the first year of a two-year term as DAA president, serves on the boards of various arts organizations, public television, and legal-aid services. He retired last year as division president and managing director of U.S. Trust Company. At Duke, he was an A.B. Duke Scholar and a Navy Scholar.

   Tom Clark has been an SLDN board member since 2001, and currently serves as the organization's treasurer.
   
   Clark received his AB from Duke University and his MBA from Harvard University. He has also received two Honorary Doctor of Laws degrees, one from Cumberland College in 1991 and another from Union College in 2004. Clark was on active duty from 1971 to 1975, continued his military career in the Reserves, and retired as a Commander.
   
   In addition to his work with SLDN, Clark is a board member and Chairman Emeritus of Union College. He serves on the board and is President Emeritus of the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company. He is President-elect of the Duke University Alumni Association and joins the board of Duke in 2005. He is past president and a member of the board of Concert Artists Guild. He is a member of the board of Eos Orchestra. He is a past board member of American Composers Orchestra, Metropolitan Opera Club, and Playwrights Horizons.

   New York banker Thomas Clark, Duke class of 1969 and incoming president of the Duke Alumni Association, said Brodhead's office is averaging about 1,000 e-mails a week about the controversy. He said the vast majority have been supportive.
   
   "Whenever a school like Duke that is on such a pedestal, given its success in so many areas, anytime there's a problem it stands in such contrast to the typical and ordinary image," said Clark, a varsity swimmer and choir member who proudly wears a homemade Duke belt to school events.
