   "What we found when we moved to North Port was that there was a more than ample supply of applicants for our new facility," said Thomas Clark, human resources manager for King Plastic. "We are one of the major industries in the area. This has helped people living in Venice, Nokomis, Osprey and North Port who are looking for local opportunities to work."
   
   Not only has the company opened locally, but has also almost instantly begun helping the community. Following the Sept. 11 New York and Washington tragedies, employees volunteered to donate the money the company would have spent on the annual holiday gift basket to the New York Manhattan Project to help victim's families.

   "The owners and employees wanted to reach out and help," Clark said. "They also did not want to forget our local community. They split $5,000 into four funds."
   
   Wednesday, employees gathered and gave the North Port Area Chamber of Commerce checks to distribute to the Manhattan Project, the chamber's scholarship fund for local students, city of North Port division of Social Services for SHARE packages for needy families during the holidays and to the Glenallen Elementary Food Services lunch program to subsidize local children who are on reduced lunch but have difficulty paying for it.
