DR. SUSAN SZEWCZAK CLARK, Executive Director, received her Ph.D. in Biochemical Physiology and BioPhysics at Brown University, focusing on intracellular control of ion transport.She taught biological sciences at Deep Springs College, Dyer, NV and served as the first female college dean before becoming the Academic Coordinator at the University of California White Mountain Research Station.In addition, since 1985 Dr. Clark has worked as a consultant and facilitator with May & Associates, which led her to develop and integrate innovative approaches to a variety of educational programs and projects.In 1994 she launched the WMRS undergraduate internship program.This program immerses undergraduates in the contrasting worlds of natural resource research and resource agency monitoring.The success of the program led to several new projects that focus on improved science education and improved communication of scientific information.In 2005, she redesigned the family consulting business into Dynamic Competence, Ltd. as a means to prepare organizations and individuals for more effective engagement and understanding of the change process.As director of ESICE, she has been awarded numerous grants for a range of innovative educational programs including a $750,000 award for a county-wide outdoor science education program funded by the California Postsecondary Education Commission Eisenhower Foundation and a $2.6 M award from that National Science Foundation for the Roadside Heritage Project.She also is one of two co-facilitators for the $18 M Sierra Nevada Adaptive Management Project.
