   The Chair of the Australian Divisions of General Practice (ADGP) Dr Rob Walters announced today that ADGP Chief Executive Officer Dr Steve Clark had notified him of his intention to leave the organisation in mid July to pursue a new career opportunity.

   Dr Walters said Dr Clark had made a very significant contribution to the Divisions of General Practice network during his four and a half year tenure and that his departure was a great loss.

   Dr Clark, who has been ADGP CEO since January 2000, has overseen the growth of ADGP from a staff of 10 to 25 FTE equivalents, providing policy advice and support on a range of national general practice programs.
   
   "Dr Clark has played an important role in ensuring that grass-roots GPs, through their local Division of General Practice and ADGP, can influence the development of primary health care policy in Australia for the good of the profession and the community it serves," Dr Walters said.

   Dr Clark is a past Chair of the National Rural Health Alliance and an Adjunct Associate Professor of Rural Health at James Cook University, Queensland.
   
   He completed his doctoral studies (PhD) in rural education at JCU in 1992 under a visiting research fellowship sponsored by the Queensland Department of Education.
   
   Dr Walters said that Dr Clark would be actively assisting ADGP over the next three months in identifying his replacement so that the transition was as seamless as possible.

   Dr Steve Clark, Director of the North Queensland Rural Health Training Unit (NQRHTU) and Associate Professor in the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine at James Cook University, is the new Chairperson of the National Rural Health Alliance. Dr Clark leads a new Executive with representatives from five States.
