Clark requested a recount of the recent election after figures he tallied differed from those counted by election officials.

Preliminary results said Blount won by three votes, but the actual total was Blount, 216, and Clark, 214.

"I intend to run for the position again," said Clark, who is employed by the Van Buren Fire Department."This position is one that would provide me a great way to get back to the community where I live.I made a lot of friends and met a lot of great people along the way."

Coleman fuel is another unacceptable home-heating fuel," said Capt. Stanley Clark of the Van Buren Fire Department.

Van Buren firefighters have been called to two residential fires this winter, Clark said. However, chimney fires are commonplace when temperatures fall below freezing.

"The best thing to do when you have a chimney fire is first call 911, then throw a small cup of water into the fireplace which creates steam which will rise into the pipe and hopefully snuff the blaze until the fire department gets there," Clark said.

Other safety measures include cleaning out the fireplace and wood stoves to avoid build-up of creosote.Opening cabinet doors under sinks and leaving water dripping should alleviate frozen pipes.

"Have a lot of batteries on hand for lighting rather than using candles for light sources which is dangerous," Clark said.
