    Clark named director of restaurant operations

    Sean Clark, formerly director of kitchen operations for Steamworks Brewing Co., was promoted to executive chef and director of restaurant operations.He will oversee the management of all food service efforts at both Steamworks locations in Durango and Bayfield.

    Originally from Montrose, Clark came to Durango to attend Fort Lewis College in 1996 just prior to the opening of Steamworks.A student of fine arts, he took a job in the kitchen tossing pizzas and was promoted to Steamworks' kitchen manager.He graduated in 1998 and left Durango temporarily, while his wife Nicole completed her education in Boulder.

    Clark returned to Steamworks in February 2004 as director of kitchen operations.He also has been pursing his executive chef certification from the Culinary Institute of America.He qualified at a preliminary exam in May and hopes to be certified by December.

    DURANGO, Colo. - Sean Clark, formerly director of kitchen operations for Steamworks Brewing Co., has been promoted to executive chef and director of restaurant operations, now overseeing the management of all food service efforts at both Steamworks locations in Durango and Bayfield.

    Originally from Montrose, Clark came to Durango to attend Fort Lewis College just prior to the opening of the original Steamworks in 1996.A student studying Fine Arts, he took a job in the kitchen tossing pizzas, but was quickly promoted to Steamworks' kitchen manager.

    "I was managing the kitchen before I even graduated from college," said Clark, who graduated from Fort Lewis in 1998.

    Though he did leave Durango and Steamworks temporarily while his wife Nicole completed her education in Boulder, Clark returned to Steamworks in February 2004 as director of kitchen operations, overseeing the Durango brewpub and the soon to open Bayfield pub.

    Simultaneously Clark has been pursuing his certification with the Culinary Institute of America.Qualifying at a preliminary exam in May, he hopes, pending time availability, to take the final exam to become a Certified Executive Chef in December 2008 in New York.

    Sean Clark-Kitchen Manager by Day-Superhero by Night

    Sean is a full-blown Colorado Native.He spent all of his years growing up on the Western Slope.The mountains have become an essential part of his life.

    He attended Western State College for two years where he received a scholarship for pottery.He then transferred to Fort Lewis College in the fall of 1995 where he continued to pursue his degree in the fine arts.He graduated in the spring of 1998.He now hopes to be a successful artist at some point in life but says he will continue with art for the rest of his days, regardless if success comes his way or not.

    Sean started working at Steamworks in September of 1996 when they opened.He took over the Kitchen Manager position a year and a half later.Since then Sean has taken on other projects as well as running the kitchen.He is responsible for hanging artwork from local artists within Steamworks and is currently coordinating a juried art show for the Taste of Durango this summer."It is important for me to incorporate my passion for art in everything I do in life.So it seemed like a healthy responsibility for me to take on."

    When Sean isn't at work or isn't enjoying a microbrew from his favorite establishment you can find him hard at work in front of an easel or pottery wheel.And if he isn't there he's gone to the hills for some fishing, hiking or any other fun under the sun.
