ELKHORN-For Rulo and Ruth Clark, the Walworth County Fair has been a family tradition that has spanned generations.
The couple have participated.Their children have participated.Their grandchildren have participated.
Rulo and Ruth were chosen to be the honorary marshals at the 154th annual Walworth County Fair, which runs from Wednesday through Monday, Sept. 1, at the fairgrounds in Elkhorn.

"It's a great honor," Ruth said.
Rulo, 73, and Ruth, 72, own and operate a dairy farm in Sugar Creek Township near Elkhorn with their sons-Jim and Kevin.

Rulo and Ruth met when they students at Elkhorn High School.

Rulo and Ruth became involved with the fair in the 1960s when their children started showing animals there.Jim, Kevin, Susan and Kari brought steers, dairy cows and pigs to the fair most years.
Rulo, Ruth and the children would get up at about 4:30 a.m. to milk the cows at the fairgrounds.

Rulo, Ruth and the children worked hard on the farm.They couldn't take a vacation in the summer, so they considered the fair their vacation.
Ruth has served as the photography leader for the Sugar Creek 4-H Club for the past 32 years.
She has taught children how to use cameras and take good pictures.She has advised them on what kind of cameras to buy and which pictures to enter in the fair.
Ruth is county key photography leader, which means she's the resource person about photography in the county.
She's also on the awards committee for the Walworth County 4-H Club, where she helps decide who gets the top awards in the program.
Rulo is involved with the Walworth County Farm Bureau.He served as president for 13 years and now is a director.
Rulo, Ruth and their children were named Walworth County Farm Bureau Farm Family of the Year in 1969.

Ruth enjoys browsing the open class exhibits.
And she likes looking at the junior exhibits, particularly the Sugar Creek 4-H Club's photography entries.
The Sugar Creek 4-H Club did well in photography this year, Ruth said proudly.Two members earned grand champion ribbons, while a third earned a merit ribbon, she said.
