   August 31, 2007 was a landmark day for St. Joseph Regional Medical Center as a professional film company invaded the operating room to record the first use of a new orthopedic implant system designed and installed by Ron Clark, M.D., orthopedic surgeon with the South Bend Clinic. Dr. Clark is a world recognized expert in the creation of orthopedic surgical techniques and implants and has lectured in many countries and professional meetings on topics related to knee and shoulder surgery.
   
   The video obtained during the surgery will be used to create an instructional DVD that will be used by surgeons world-wide for reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament, a common knee disorder.
   
   Dr.Clark expressed appreciation to the entire surgical department for their assistance and cooperation with the filming as well as the excellent operating room support.
   
   The surgical device is marketed by Valpo Orthopedic Technology (www.votechnology.com) out of Warsaw,IN and is called the Adjust-Rite ligament fixation implant.
   
   The device allows for a more accurate tensioning of the replacement ligament in knee surgery compared to conventional means. Dr. Clark has been developing the device over the last 7 years.
