Robert Clark is Central Lake's new police chief
    ...
Robert Clark was officially handed the job on Nov. 15.He replaces Mike Schuitema, who resigned in August. He had accepted a position at the Pentwater Police Department as police chief.

Clark, who was born and raised in Ohio, brings nearly 20 years of experience with him to the area, which includes a four-year stint in the Air Force as a security specialist.

His law enforcement career began at the Milwaukee Police Department, where he worked for eight years on road patrol, harbor patrol and area saturation patrol, which included tracking down gangs, drugs and weapon-related activities. He also worked on the warrant squad, where he tracked down and apprehended fugitives wanted on outstanding warrants.

Clark has served as police chief in Hillsboro, Wisc. and as an officer at the Walkerville Police Department. He served in his former position as a tribal police sergeant for three years.

When asked why he applied for the position in Central Lake, which he discovered was available through the law enforcement network, Clark said he wanted to get back into mainstream policing.

"I was mostly doing federal law enforcement through the tribal police," he said."I decided it was time for a change."

Clark said he and his wife visited the area several times before the "hiring process" even started.

"We wanted to get a sense of community," he said."We really liked what we saw and everyone has been so nice and friendly. It has been a very warm welcome.

"Everyone has been more gracious than I could ever expect," Clark added.
