TAMPA - Robert Clark Jr., a board member of the embattled Tampa-Hillsborough County Expressway Authority, filed an application Monday for a city council appointment.
Clark is seeking a four-month appointment to replace Rose Ferlita, who is stepping down from her citywide council seat to serve on the Hillsborough County Commission.
...
Clark said his involvement with the Expressway Authority shouldn't hurt his chances of winning the council appointment.
"I believe in good government," Clark said. "You'll see I'm involved in a lot of good things. I'd like to be a team player."
Clark is president of Tampa Steel Erecting Co. and serves on several community boards.
Problems with the Expressway Authority began when Clark asked lobbyist John Beck to meet with applicants for a legal contract.
...
The authority's top lawyer at the time, Steve Anderson, accused Clark of trying to oust him from his job.
...
Clark sold steel to an expressway contractor just before he joined the board.
Clark, in late August, recommended changing the bids for the legal services contract, awarding the contract to Gray Robinson, which was ranked second.
Council Chairwoman Gwen Miller sits with Clark on the authority's board. -
