   The much accomplished and community-oriented Christina Clark became a member of The ALS Association National Board of Trustees in 2003, the same year her son, Peter Rostworowski Clark, founder and president of the not-for-profit organization Hope for ALS, passed away at age 40 at his home in Houston, Texas.

   Inspired by her son's eight-year battle with the disease, Clark established the Foundation for Interdisciplinary Motor Neuron Medicine (The ALS BioTeam) in 1998.She left behind a career in local politics and business, including such executive level positions as vice president and legislative director.
   
   The foundation is described on a National Institutes of Health (NIH) website as the "catalyst for using interdisciplinary strategies in several ALS research studies relating to drug screening and stem cell research.The ALS BioTeam focuses on accelerating therapeutic opportunities by acting as a voluntary facilitator for inter-academic and industry collaborations."
   
   A member of the NIH Director's Council of Representatives, and member of a NIH/National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke committee, Clark finds the energy to wage battle against ALS "in honor of her son's courage and to further his contribution by helping others with ALS."
   
   Clark is very enthusiastic about TREAT ALS (Translational Research Advancing Therapy for ALS), ALSA's initiative that combines efficient new drug discovery with pilot clinical trials to accelerate clinical testing of compounds with promise for the disease.At The ALS Association, she serves on the Research and Advocacy Committees, and she often serves as The Association's board liaison at scientific meetings.
   
   A resident of Metamora, Michigan, where she lives on a farm with her husband, Emory, Clark was the Lapeer County Citizen of the Year in 1997.The former county commissioner from Lapeer County also received a community leadership grant, 1994-1998, from the Kellogg Foundation.Clark also was appointed to the state of Michigan's Commission on Aging by Governor John Engler and was a member of the board of directors of the Greater Michigan chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
