   Mike grew up in Whangerei and started an pprenticeship with a local Chevrolet dealer. In 1959 he bought a service station at Waipu and sold it in 1964 where he moved to Auckland to work for Cable Price selling Land Rover and Mercedes-Benz vehicles and Homelite outboards. Mike worked for and eventually purchased a car business specialising in the sale of expensive imported cars. Then after a stint in the Marine Industry he worked for Giltrap and set up the Mercedes companies in Newmarket and North Shore. Mike is now General Manager at Independent Prestige, the Aston Martin, Bentley and Lamborghini dealership. On the boating front Mike started sailing P class at the age of seven. He completed the 1985 Admirals Cup, the 86 Southern Cross cup and won the 86 Kenwood cup in a Farr 40 one ton boat. Mike managed the 1988 and 1992 Olympic sailing teams, the teams won a total of seven medals.

   Mike Clark, general manager of Giltrap North Shore, which retails the Mercedes-Benz SLK in Auckland, New Zealand, was delighted at the announcement, but was not totally surprised. 'The 2005 Mercedes-Benz SLK roadster is such a style statement for such a competitive price. It compares in looks to the NZ$1 million Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, yet costs a fraction, at only NZ$85,500 for the SLK 200 Kompressor,' he said.
