Professor Mike Clark is Director of two of the University of Southampton's research institutes - the GeoData Institute and The Centre for AIDS Research. Working with both environmental hazards and health pandemics, his team addresses the challenge of societies facing threat and crisis. Having started his academic life as an arctic scientist, his focus has moved progressively south towards sub-Saharan Africa and towards a social science perspective, but through four decades he has published widely on teaching, the media and learning, particularly e-learning. He has served as Trustee of the Education Foundation of South Africa, Trustee of the United Church Schools Trust Foundation and Member of the Council of the United Church Schools Trust - and as Chair of the Local Governing Council of the Atherley School.
