Margaret Clark, coordinator of career cooperative education for Mountain Brook High School, says the school has been on the lookout for tools to help improve students' financial literacy and will include TimeMaps in various classroom curricula come fall.
"We sometimes think our students are more worldly because they've had a lot of experiences, but we found they were missing basic financial concepts," Clark says.
Mountain Brook will use the program in all its career tech classes and will use specific lessons in various other courses, Clark says.Teachers will learn to navigate the software in summer training workshops to prepare for the start of classes in the fall.As part of its partnership with Mountain Brook High School, Red Mountain has agreed to host a business seminar for students.
"I think the parents will love this, because I think all parents want their children to be financially literate," Clark says.
Personal finance information is particularly vital for seniors, many of whom will be inundated with credit card offers as they head to college campuses after graduation, she says.
