Linda Clark, director of food services for Hannibal schools, said her staff will check more than 8,000 pounds of ground beef in stock.
"I want to reassure parents of children and the community we will check very carefully," Clark said. "If there's any question, we would not use that beef."
Clark said the Hallmark/Westland label is "not a name" she recalls seeing on ground beef packages. The district has policies in place to safeguard food served to students.
"Our staff is trained in food safety and all of the managers are certified through the Marion County Health Department," Clark said.
Hannibal schools serve about 3,300 meals a day. Monday was a holiday, so no lunches were served. Clark has been with the district for almost three decades, and doesn't remember a recall this large. -
