    Leo J. P. Clark, M.D. was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended the University of Notre Dame, graduating in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine in 1970. Dr. Clark interned in medicine at Down State Medical Center - Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. A year of surgical residency was spent at Bellevue Hospital, New York University, New York City. His four-year neurosurgical residency was done at Yale University and included tours of duty at Yale-New Haven Hospital, West Haven Veterans' Hospital and Hartford Hospital. During his neurosurgical training, Dr. Clark held teaching positions at Yale University School of Medicine, University of Connecticut and New York University. In addition, Dr. Clark served as research fellow at Yale University, where he worked in spinal cord research.

    Dr. Clark is past chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center and St. Luke's Hospital. He has participated in the emergency medicine resident training program at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center since 1976. Dr. Clark is a member of the American Medical Association, Ohio State Medical Association, Ohio State Neurosurgical Society, Central Neurosurgical Society and Academy of Medicine - Toledo chapter. He has been board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery since 1979 and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons since 1985.

    Dr. Clark has developed a special interest in the neurosurgical treatment of arthritic diseases of the spine and skull base surgery. He has trained with Dr. Hank Verbiest, who is internationally recognized for introducing the concept of spinal stenosis, and Dr. Takanori Fukushima, who is internationally recognized for his contributions to skull base surgery. Dr. Clark is recognized as having introduced a number of new diagnostic and therapeutic neurosurgical procedures to the Toledo community. Such advances include the trans-sphenoidal microsurgical approach to pituitary tumors, spinal instrumentation techniques for complex spine disorders and microsurgery for ruptured discs of the back and neck.

    Dr. Clark's interest in computers spans more than twenty years and has included training in computer maintenance and repair, networking, internetworking, routes configuration, and Ethernet and TCP/IP packet analysis. Dr. Clark is an accomplished gourmet cook. He has volunteered in professional kitchens in Toledo and Detroit, taken professional training courses at the Culinary Institute of America's Greystone Campus in Napa Valley, and professional schools and kitchens in Italy.
