What started out as a hobby has turned into a collection of restored vintage motorcycles owned by Lee Clark (left), owner of the Kickstand in Jackson, and former International Six- Day Enduro rider Dwight Rudder.
    ...
Clark remembers his first motorcycle: a 1968 Yamaha DT-1 Enduro. In fact, the riding bug bit him so hard he's been in the motorcycle business ever since.

After working at several motorcycle dealerships in Jackson and Houston, Texas, he returned to Mississippi in 1996 and established the Kickstand, a motorcycle accessory store in Jackson.

Two years later, he moved the business into the old Morrison Brothers Music building on U.S. 80 "as much for a place to keep my junk as for the floor space," he said.

The "junk" is a collection of vintage motorcycles, riding apparel, books and other memorabilia from the '60s and early '70s. Clark, 53, along with former International Six Day Enduro/Trial competitor Dwight Rudder of Madison, have amassed a collection of about 100 cycles in "various states of disrepair."
    ...
"We belong to a group called Vinduro," Clark said. "We have about 500 members who just like riding the old bikes and having fun.

"It's a family atmosphere. Some riders even loan bikes to competitors."

Vinduro, or vintage enduro, is dedicated to off-road motorcycles manufactured before 1975, although newer models are allowed to enter some events.
    ...
"The average rider is probably 55 years old," Clark says. "But we've had one as old as seventy."

And it is just for fun. "We all have to get up and go to work on Monday."

Vinduro events last only two days but leave the participants with the same feeling of camaraderie.
