"This is just a good way to meet a lot of teachers," said Jim Clark, principal of Ed White High School.
In past years, Clark has hired a total of eight teachers whom he met through the fair. He keeps a file on every promising teacher he's met over the years and reviews the files when positions open at the school.
For the job candidates, the fair provides a chance to make a personal connection and stand out from the 1,000 people after the same position.
"It is just so easy to go from table to table and present yourself to these people," said Makita Harvey, a recent college graduate from Ocala who came to the fair. "They try to make it relaxing, but it is still nerve-wracking. You just hope you get a job from it." -

Jim Clark , principal at Ed White High School , said he makes several informal , unannounced visits with his 100 teachers throughout the school year before the official halfhour observation.
But , Clark said , that thoroughness takes a lot of time.
''It's awful hard to get to 100 teachers , and I'd like a system where I could spend more time with a teacher that needs improvement and not to have to observe a teacher that I know is a good teacher , '' Clark said.
Union President Ford said principals routinely disregard the evaluation guidelines by not observing teachers and by ignoring the program deadlines.
