    A Tribute to Jill Clark

CCF has received messages from every corner of the world - all honoring Jill Clark . Below is just a small sample of those thoughts and prayers.

It is with a deep sense of shock and disbelief that we learnt of the death of Jill Clark in Iraq. This senseless bombing of the United Nations building could only be seen as a babaric act which could not in anyway be justified as being done in the interest of the people of Iraq.We pray that God bless the soul of Jill and give her family the strength to cope with this loss.

Ousman Cham, Regional RepresentativeCCF West Africa

We have received with deep regret the news of the death of Jill Clark. We have had the opportunity of working with her last year and feel very much the passing away of such a fine person. We will remember you all in our prayers as we pray for the sweet repose of her soul.

Dear Colleagues,I just wanted to extend my condolences to you on the tragic and terrible death of Jill.I, like you and many people around the world, are in mourning at so many losses.Losses of which we are still unaware of the complete ramifications.

However, I just wanted to share something positive with you about Jill - to ensure that her passing was not in vain. Before meeting Jill I didn't really understand what it meant to implement a child-rights based approach to humanitarian assistance.Jill patiently explained this to me - giving me many concrete and practical examples of what this meant in reality.
    ...
I truly enjoyed meeting Jill and was impressed by her commitment and enthusiasm to the work CCF was preparing to do in Iraq. This is a terrible day for us all.

Jill Clark, CCF - US Staff Member

First let me say that as Executive Director of Christian Children's Fund of Canada, our thoughts and prayers are with the family members of Gillian Clark.

We were shocked to hear of the bomb blast at the UN Headquarters yesterday in Iraq and were very shocked and saddened to learn of the death of Jill Clark. This is a devastating loss for us, her family and the humanitarian aid community world wide, including the children of Iraq who will no longer have the benefit of her expertise.

On behalf of all of us at Christian Children's Fund of Canada, we offer our deepest sympathy for her mother and family and for Christian Children's Fund based in Richmond Virginia, our US counterpart.

To clarify, Jill Clark worked for the US based organization, not the Canadian organization. However she was a Canadian dual citizen (Canada and the UK).
    ...
Jill was an outgoing energetic person who focused her career on helping people, specifically children.

The family indicated that as they saw the images on TV last night, they expected to see Jill assisting and pulling people from the rubble because that was the kind of person she was.

While spending time with the family today, I realized that this was a very caring and giving family.Typical of what all of us look for in someone who goes out into the violent world to help others.Mrs. Clark indicated her daughter was a very adventurous person and was able to combine this adventurous spirit with a great spirit of charity.Jill was scheduled to leave Iraq within a few days. This type of tragic death underscores the sanctity of human life and how temporal our time can be in such a violent world.

Currently, there are Richmond staff member's enroute to be with Mrs. Clark here in Toronto.
