"I was told to have a total unit recall (Tuesday) and by noon (Wednesday) to be ready to go," said Capt. Jean Clark, operations officer of the 204th Security Forces Squadron. The unit is authorized for 112 airmen, but Clark wouldn't say exactly how many would go to Louisiana.

Clark wouldn't allow reporters into the 204th facility -- once the location of the Sergeants Major Academy at Fort Bliss.

The mission "could be moving sandbags, it could be cutting trees, or it could be securing the Capitol," Clark said."We're all very proud to be called to help Americans in America."

The unit has deployed more than 36 times to destinations all over the globe since the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C., Clark said.It has been assigned to Bosnia, Afghanistan, Japan, Italy, England, Colombia, Honduras and many other places.
