   VIRGINIA BEACH -- Jane Black Clark, beloved wife of David Clark IV, died Saturday, July 20, 2002.
   
   Mrs. Clark was born in Norfolk in 1933 to Aileen Taylor Black and Barron Foster Black, who preceded her in death.

   A 1952 graduate of Holton Arms School in Washington, D.C., Mrs. Clark attended Sweet Briar College. She left to marry Ensign David Clark IV in 1954. During her life, she was active in her community. The Ruth Sargeant Circle of The King's Daughters held its organizational meeting in her home in 1949. Mrs. Clark served on the board of the Junior League of Norfolk, was president of the Junior Garden Club of Norfolk, and was active in the Garden Club of Norfolk. She was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames, a charter member of the Advisory Board and instructor of Lee's Friends, helping people with cancer. Mrs. Clark was a volunteer for the "Reach to Recovery Program" of the American Cancer Society, visiting mastectomy patients. Over the years, she made herself available to encourage and counsel cancer patients.
   
   But most important to her was her faith in God, and her family. Having survived several bouts with cancer, beginning in 1957, her family became a close-knit supportive unit.

   Mrs. Clark had great affection for their husbands, David Evans Coe, Edgar C. Morrison Jr. and James Thomas Hopkins III.

   A lifelong member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Mrs. Clark served as president of the Women of the Church, and in other capacities. She was involved in Bible studies and prayer groups, and attended classes at Virginia Beach Community Chapel, and Galilee Episcopal Church, where she was involved in a recently formed cancer support group.
   
   Her interests included creative writing, traveling, reading, daily walks, aerobics, shell collecting, gardening and making her surroundings a prettier place to live. She was an organizer and record keeper, and compiled a voluminous collection of family photos, in addition to a family ancestor gallery. Beginning in 1954, every Christmas the Clarks sent friends a picture of their family, recording events in their lives. By 1999, the annual family picture included 17 family members.
   
   Mrs. Clark leaves behind a treasury of poems and other writings, often written to encourage friends and loved ones. Her unshakable faith in God, and the enduring love she and her husband shared, were an inspiration to her children, grandchildren, and many of her friends. She will be remembered for her lovely countenance, her graciousness, caring for others, and her passion for life.
