The CEO's relationship with the Board of Trustees is one of visionary leadership and partnership. According to Chris Clark, executive search consultant for Heidrick & Struggles and a former CEO himself, trustees expect the CEO to provide proactive, focused and strategic leadership to ensure that their organization both survives and thrives. They expect their CEO to have a long-term view, to see over the horizon, and to provide a vision that others come to share (36).
   
   In return, the Board of Trustees' assessment of the organization's progress and of strategic growth can provide the CEO with reinforcement that he is indeed proceeding in an effective and efficient manner.
   
   Conclusion
   
   CEOs have exchanged traditional autocratic, hierarchical positions for more democratic and visible ones. As a result, CEOs have attained the role of partner alongside a diverse workforce. Still predominant are the roles as liaison with shareholders and the Board of Directors and Board of Trustees. The role of community representative and friend are newly developing as well.
