Dr. Rachel Chung

Pianist Hyunjung Rachel Chung is an Assistant Professor of Piano and Theory at Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Arkansas.As an active performer, collaborative artist and adjudicator, she has appeared in numerous musical venues including Carnegie Weill Recital Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, Symphony Space, Nicolas Music Center, Mannes Concert Hall, NYU, Wilson College, Yurim Art Hall, and Kyunggi Fine Arts Center.She won several national piano competitions in Korea, and was selected to perform in master classes with Emmanuel Ex, Jerome Rose, Paulina Dokovska and Sergei Mikovsky.She has appeared as a featured soloist with the Rutgers University Orchestra and the Mannes Orchestra as a winner of piano concerto competitions.Also she received the Special Presentation Award from the 24th Artist International annual audition, which made her New York Debut possible in 1997.She is a recipient of the Saldarini Scholarship, Kreeger Regidency Award, and the Rutgers University Edna Mason Award.

Dr. Chung earned her Bachelor of Music degree from Seoul National University, a Master of Music and Professional Study Diploma from the Mannes College of Music, NY, and D.M.A. from Rutgers University.

Rachel Chung comes to St. James by transfer from another United Methodist Church.Rachel is an Assistant Music Professor at Philander-Smith College.
