In March 2001, Chuichenko was appointed head of Gazprom's legal department, and in April 2002, he became a member of the Gazprom management board.

In March 2005, Chuichenko also was elected to the supervisory board of Sibneft, after Roman Abramovich bought it from Gazprom.
