Chickedantz said he found out Thursday afternoon that he had been appointed.

"I was called and asked if I would do it, and I said I would," he said."I'm sure the board members will have to sit down and chat about this."

Chickedantz said that although the recent history of the Schwab Foundation adds some pressure to the appointment, the responsibility does not change.

"Obviously this one is more in the public eye than most (foundations) are," he said."But whatever the organization is you're involved with, it's your responsibility to run a tight ship and comply with the applicable laws and do the best you can do."

Chickedantz said he expects that his tenure on the board likely will be temporary as the organization moves through the lawsuit and the attorney general's investigation.

Other members include Three Rivers Ambulance board President Erik Chickedantz, City Councilman and pulmonary doctor Tom Hayhurst, former Parkview executive and former mayoral chief of staff Dave Ridderheim, and CVC Communications Chief Executive Officer Marilyn Moran Townsend.
