(Norwich, Conn.) -- Right-handed pitcher Scott Chiasson, 27, was signed by the San Francisco Giants to a Minor League contract on Friday, July 1, and assigned to the Norwich Navigators.Chiasson was born in Norwich, and still makes the Rose City his home.He was originally drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the fifth round in 1998 from Eastern Connecticut State University after their NCAA Division III World Series Championship. He also attended Norwich Free Academy.
Chiasson pitched briefly for the Chicago Cubs in 2001 and 2002, but began this year with the Colorado Rockies organization and appeared in 11 games, all in relief, before injuring his left elbow diving back in to first base May 22.He was placed on the disabled list, but later asked for, and was granted, his release.Shortly after his release he contacted Navigators Hitting Coach Roger LaFrancois, a Griswold, Connecticut native, and the wheels were set in motion for his eventual signing with the San Francisco Giants organization.
"It can't get any better than this," Chiasson said.
