  Luba Cherbakov, IBM Distinguished Engineer and Member of the IBM Academy of Technology, is a key technical leader in the IBM CIO Office.She is driving the CIO Situational Applications Environment Initiative that brings together Web 2.0 technologies, growing availability of services and enterprise data.
  
  Luba is a recognized expert in enterprise architecture design and development of complex distributed applications using service-oriented and component-based methods.In her previous assignments with the IBM Global Services, she architected and delivered many complex and first-of-a-kind IBM Global Services solutions across a wide variety of customer industries.
  
  As the technology leader within the IBM Business Consulting Services, Luba led an initiative to bridge business and IT that culminated in development of the IBM Service-Oriented Modeling and Architecture (SOMA) method.This method links the Component Business Modeling (CBM) to service-oriented architecture.Luba is an author, a key advocate and contributor to reference architectures, the Architectural Description Standard and grid computing offerings.The assets she created are used by many IBM IT Architects in AP, EMEA and Americas.
  
  Luba is a two-time recipient of the IBM Outstanding Technical Achievement Award and a recipient of the IBM Corporate Award - the highest technical award for unique technical contributions of superior business value.She has multiple internal and external publications to her name.
  
  An enthusiastic leader and a dedicated mentor, Luba has truly had a worldwide impact on the ITA profession through her technical community leadership, generous knowledge sharing, and mentoring of future technical leaders.
  
  A member of the IEEE Computer Society, the Society of Women Engineers and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), Luba holds a Master's degree in Computer Science from the George Washington University, with major in Software and Systems, and minor in Artificial Intelligence & Simulation.

  These mashups, Luba Cherbakov, distinguished engineer and application architect for IBM told eWEEK during a demo after the event, include the Team Analytics application.
  
  This mashup features several services, including: employee profiles from the company's internal Blue Pages directory of who's who; graphs showing the time zones and maps of where the employees are located; and a graph of employee relationships, showing who works with who and for whom.

  That's just one of the more than 150 mashups IBMers have created in a year, said Cherbakov, who also oversees IBM's Blog Central, Wiki Central, the IBM Jams online threaded discussion and ratings system and ThinkPlace, an online idea-sharing marketplace used by more than 145,000 staffers.
  
  The Metaverse and mashups beg the question: Is IBM designing these applications to appease the young programmers incoming from college, perhaps to keep the best talent from flocking to so-called cool companies such as Google or Facebook?
  
  Cherbakov wouldn't go as far to confirm this theory, but she did say that such newfangled technologies are geared for workers "used to taking responsibility for automating their work environment."
