   RHB Bank Bhd announced yesterday it has appointed Thomas T.C. Chen as chief operating officer and is waiting for Bank Negara's nod for its new chief executive officer.
   
   Chen, with 22 years of experience in international banking, was Gulf Bank of Kuwait's chief general manager for the past two years.
   
   "We welcome Chen to the management team of RHB Bank. Chen's appointment as chief operating officer brings to the bank added expertise and professional direction, a combination of strengths and experience to contribute and add to the dynamism of the management at RHB Bank," RHB Capital Bhd executive chairman Datuk Seri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib said in a statement.

   Chen, an American, joined RHB Bank on Aug 30. He holds a master of science degree in business from Carnegie Mellon University. Chen has held various senior management positions at global financial institutions including Citibank, National Australia Bank and American International Group, as well as at major regional institutions such as Riyadh Bank and Saudi American Bank.
   
   Having worked and lived in diverse markets, Chen comes with a breadth and depth of knowledge and understanding of various market conditions and challenges, according to RHB.
