    ...
The interview with Stephen S. Chen was conducted during his recent visit to Phoenix, Arizona...... --- Stephen S. Chen, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Amerihua Group, predicts a major surge in trade between China and the United States during the coming years.Factors favoring greater trading activity between China and other countries include China's entry into the World Trade Organization, the growing trend for privatization in China, and improved relations between the United States and China...... "So many things are happening in China," says Mr. Chen, adding that "now is the best time for U.S. companies to explore trading ventures with China," where the population is estimated at 1.4 billion people. ..... After China began allowing increased foreign trade in 1979, Mr. Chen was instrumental in the initial development of the China International Trust & Investment Corp. (CITIC), the country's largest investment group and holding company.Moving to the United States in 1981, he was a key figure in establishing the first U.S.-China joint venture, Beijing Jeep Corp. (with a total investment of $51 million)...... Mr. Chen later developed Amerihua International Enterprises (based in Powell, Ohio and Beijing, China), with more than 2,000 employees in Amerihua manufacturing bases in China.Amerihua also is a leading supplier of Christmas and all-season gifts in the United States and foreign markets...... According to Mr. Chen, all countries will benefit from China's entry into the WTO."Trading with China has been difficult because of barriers, limitations and restrictions," said Mr. Chen."That will change now, because the Chinese will have to abide by WTO regulations."..... Mr. Chen said many restrictions have already been relaxed, noting that the Chinese government is no longer deeply involved in approving business arrangements between companies in China and other countries. He also said the trend towards privatization in China "will prevail and get stronger" in coming years...... "With improved trading possibilities and China's entry into the WTO, it's better now to be in China first, and be in China first-class," said Mr. Chen, adding that a successful partnership can occur with a sincere "friendship" between company representatives of China and the United States...... Questions about trading in China and elsewhere in Asia can be submitted to Stephen S. Chen (Phone (614) 888-6936, Fax (614) 888-6985, or Email AmerihuaUS @aol.com).EDITOR'S NOTE: Mr. Chen also serves as Chairman of the Overseas Beijing Opera Association (USA).
