Sherwin Chen is an associate in the Life Sciences practice group and a member of the Firm's Business department. He joined the Firm in 2002 and is resident in the Palo Alto office.
Mr. Chenâ€s practice involves the representation of biotechnology, medical device and other life science companies in a wide range of intellectual property and technology related transactions.
Prior to attending law school, Mr. Chen was a research associate at Stanford Research Institute, International, studying the stability of triplex formation for possible gene therapy applications. Mr. Chen was also a research associate at Stanford Medical Schoolâ€s Medical Informatics Systems Department, where he assisted in designing health state preference assessment software. While at Stanford University, Mr. Chen taught undergraduate laboratory classes in Developmental Biology and Immunology.
Mr. Chen received his law degree in 2002 from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. While at Hastings, Mr. Chen served as the Notes Editor of the Hastings Law Journal and authored a note, Negotiating a Policy of Prudent Science and Proactive Law in the Brave New World of Genetic Information, Hastings Law Journal, Vol. 53, No. 1 (2001). Mr. Chen also received a CALI Excellence for the Future Award for his performance in an Intellectual Property Licensing Seminar. Mr. Chen earned a M.S. in Science and Technology Studies in 1997 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Mr. Chen was awarded a B.S., with honors, from Stanford University in 1996 in the fields of Biological Sciences and Science, Technology and Society.
Mr. Chen is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, and is a member of the State Bar of California.
