   By day Shaun Chen is a consultant at Artez, but by night he is a budding politician, attending constituency concerns as the elected Ward 21 trustee of the Toronto District School Board.
   
   The youngest member of the board, Shaun is no stranger to public service, having served two terms on the University of Toronto Governing Council and as ambassador for the Harmony Movement, a national program to promote peace and diversity."Ever since I can remember, I have been involved in the community and interested in issues affecting youth, equity and education," says the University of Toronto graduate who double-majored in computer science and equity studies.Shaun first joined Artez in 2002, managing projects and spearheading marketing initiatives.

   Named by Maclean's Magazine in 2000 as one of "100 young Canadians to watch," Shaun Chen is a prolific community leader who has articulated with passion the voices of his generation.A lifelong advocate for children and youth and an outspoken proponent of equity and education, Shaun was first elected to the Toronto District School Board in 2006 as Trustee for Ward 21, Scarborough-Rouge River.
   
   Prior to holding public office, Shaun served as ambassador for the Harmony Movement, a national program to promote diversity and equality in Canada. In 2001, he advised the federal government on issues of racism and discrimination at Canada's National Consultation for the United Nations World Conference Against Racism.Most recently, Shaun served two elected terms on the University of Toronto Governing Council, where he tirelessly advocated for affordable tuition and more governmental funding on behalf of students.
   
   Growing up in Scarborough, Shaun attended public schools Brookmill Boulevard Junior Public School, Sir Ernest MacMillan Senior Public School, and Sir John A. Macdonald Collegiate Institute, where he graduated as "Best Boy" in 1999.He went on to receive his Honours Bachelor of Science in computer science and equity studies from the University of Toronto, where he is currently completing his Master of Education.
   
   Shaun has a received a myriad of community honours including Toronto's Commitment to Diverse-City Award, Herbert H. Carnegie Future Aces Citizenship Award, and an award citation in youth services from Scarborough Community Council.In 1999, Shaun was awarded the Ontario Medal for Young Volunteers.

   At 23, Shaun Chen is a prolific young Canadian who has articulated with passion the voices of his generation.A Toronto-based freelance journalist and writer, his socially conscious work has appeared in national publications including The Toronto Star.As a speaker, Shaun has motivated countless youth by sharing his unique experiences.While chair of the Scarborough Youth Council in 1998, he coordinated the first-ever Breaking Down The Barriers conference on diversity issues and subsequently helped found the Toronto Youth Cabinet.Most recently, Shaun is an ambassador for the Harmony Movement and a member of the University of Toronto Governing Council.A former aide to current MPP Brad Duguid, he has also worked as e-business project manager at United Way of Greater Toronto and business analyst for a Toronto-based software firm.Shaun is a recipient of the Ontario Medal for Young Volunteers - the province's most prestigious honour for youth - and was named by Maclean's Magazine in 2000 as one of "100 young Canadians to watch."
