The Dofasco Centre for Engineering and Public Policy is presenting a seminar on Involuntary Resettlement Policies and Practices in China by Dr. Shaojun Chen.
The seminar will take place in ITB A113B on Wednesday, Sept. 27 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Dr. Shaojun Chen is the Associate Director of the National Research Centre for Resettlement and a Professor of Public Administration at Hohai University, China.
She received her PhD from Hohai University in the field of water resources development and involuntary resettlement. Her research interests are in the areas of involuntary resettlement science and social assessment of development projects.
Over the past 50 years, the economic construction of China has increased dramatically. Consequently, a great deal of involuntary resettlements were caused by the construction of reservoirs, railways, roads, power plants and power transmission projects, airports, watercourses, urban water supply and sewage treatment projects, urbanization and reconstruction, land acquisition for development areas and real estates.
It is estimated that the development projects in China have created more than 45 million involuntary resettlers. -
