   In March 2002, Mr Peter Chen was appointed by the Queensland Government as a member of the Valuers Registration Board of Queensland for a three-year term.
   
   Peter is a Chinese Australian who has a diversified corporate background with over 35 years experience in Australia and Asia Pacific regions. He has held senior executive positions with large American, Canadian and Australian corporations in the construction, mining, and property development fields.
   
   Born the son of a naval officer in Tianjin, he arrived in Australia in 1961. In 1978, he established the entrepreneurial consulting firm Peter Chen & Partners Pty Ltd in Brisbane. He is also one of the very few Chinese to head a listed public company in Queensland.
   
   Peter started his career in accountancy and business management, and gradually moved into the property development industry, both as a consultant and a developer in his own right. He currently leads a team of specialists who can undertake major projects in Australia and overseas.
   
   Peter has acted as a special adviser to a number of government organisations in China, and has advised government ministers in Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Cook Island, and Pohnpel.
   
   He has been responsible for the conceptual ideas for many national and international development proposals and tenders, such as the Tianjin Financial Centre, Hobart Fisherman's Wharf, Expo Hotel, Sydney 2000 Olympics Hotel, and the Three Gorges Theme Park in Beijing.
   
   He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries, the Australian Institute of Management, Australian Society of Senior Executives, and the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is a past vice-president of the Housing Industry Association in Queensland, past President of the Chinese Australian Chamber of Commerce-Gold Coast, and a past director of the Founders Forum Limited, and is currently chairman and CEO of the listed Sabina Corporation Limited.
   
   In November 1998, he was appointed as a member of the Council of the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane and completed his three-year term in November 2001.

   Ltd chairman Peter Chen is negotiating with various councils in Northern, North-East and Southern Tasmania.
   
   West Tamar Mayor Barry Easther said yesterday that Mr Chen outlined his Legana proposal to a council meeting a couple of months ago and had since submitted a preliminary development plan.

   Mr Chen has secured a conditional contract on an 8ha former dairy farm next to the Legana Industrial Park that he believes would provide easy access to such a large development following the upgrade of that section of the West Tamar Highway.

   "It is planned that the complex would also have a chemist shop, pathology, radiology, optometry, herbal shop, cafe, gym and child- minding centre," Mr Chen said.

   Negotiations are continuing on the North-East project because the land that Mr Chen has earmarked is owned by Forestry Tasmania.
   
   Other planned Tasmanian developments by Mr Chen's Sabina Company include:
   
   ¤A historic development at York Cove, which he is discussing with the George Town Council.
   
   ¤A Chinese-styled village and 84-bedroom apartment building with food hall and coffee shop on land alongside the University of Tasmania's Newnham campus. Mr Chen says that Launceston City Council has approved the project.
