A sendoff concert for Mei-Ann Chen
...
Mei-Ann Chen, who for the past five years has charmed Portland audiences with her verve and vivacity, and sustained the sterling reputation of the Portland Youth Philharmonic (PYP) Orchestra with her outstanding conducting abilities and progressive choices of repertoire, will soon be taking leave of us.She was recently picked to be a staff conductor at the Atlanta Symphony, and will work with respected Chief Conductor Robert Spano.
While this will be a big boost to Ms. Chen's reputation, it will be a big loss for the City of Roses. We came to love her energy and unique style, and she continued to build the already high reputation of the PYP, whose inception in 1924 makes it the nation's oldest ensemble of its kind.It is also arguably the best, and Mei-Ann Chen has maintained the high quality and esteem the PYP enjoys.
She will take the PYP on an extensive tour of Asia, starting with her home town of Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
