Liwei Chen
Education : B.S. M.S. Ph.D. - SFM probe technology
Liwei Chen received his B.S. from the University of Science and Technology in China ( USTC ) and M.S. from Peking University , China. Currently , he is a Ph.D. Candidate at Harvard University. His research focuses on developing SFM probe technology for more sophisticated fabrication and manipulation of nanometer scaled objects. As a result of the interplay between two important aspects of nanotechnology , nanomaterials and microscopy , SFM has not only evolved into an indispensable tool for characterization of nanomaterials and devices , but also benefited from materials research. One of the most fantastic materials discovered in the last decade , carbon nanotube , makes potentially ideal probes for SFM because of intrinsic small diameter , high aspect ratio , reversible buckling , and the possibility of chemical functionalization. The technology can lead to chemically and functionally sensitive imaging and may eventually give rise to local chemistry at molecular level and the fabrication of molecular devices.
