   PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Delaware Investments today announced that it has hired portfolio manager Liu-Er Chen to build an international emerging markets equity team. Based at the firm's Boston office, Mr. Chen is expected to assume management of the Delaware Emerging Markets Fund and Delaware VIP Emerging Markets Series in late September 2006. Mr. Chen has more than 10 years of experience as an emerging markets analyst and portfolio manager. He also has a history of managing healthcare portfolios, a specialty that he is expected to continue at Delaware Investments. Mr. Chen's title is Senior Vice President, Senior Portfolio Manager, and Chief Investment Officer for Emerging Markets.

   Mr. Chen comes to Delaware Investments from Evergreen Investment Management Company, LLC, where he most recently served as managing director and senior portfolio manager. He co-managed the Evergreen Emerging Markets Growth Fund between 1999 and 2001, and became the Fund's sole manager in 2001. He also served as the sole manager of the Evergreen Health Care Fund since its inception in 1999. Mr. Chen began his career at Evergreen in 1995 as an analyst covering Asian and global healthcare stocks. Mr. Chen is licensed to practice medicine in China, and has experience in medical research at both the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Cornell Medical School. He also worked for three years in sales, marketing, and business development for major American and European pharmaceutical and medical device companies. He holds an MBA degree in management from Columbia Business School, and is a CFA charterholder.
