Violinist Laura Park Chen is a member of both the Lyric Opera Orchestra and the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra. At the age of 19, she joined the Philadelphia Orchestra. Beginning In 1991, she served as Assistant Concertmaster with the Boston Symphony for 5 years. She then became Concertmaster of the Brooklyn Philharmonic and Guest Concertmaster of the Royal Opera in Stockholm, Sweden.
As a soloist, Mrs. Chen has appeared with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic, Korean Broadcasting System Orchestra, Lithuanian National Philharmonic, and Aarhus Symphony Orchestra in Denmark. In 1995, she performed the John Adams Violin Concerto with the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra and also with the Louisville Orchestra to honor John Adams, the 1995 recipient of the Grawemeyer Award for Music Composition. In 1998, she gave the New York premiere of the Ligeti Violin Concerto with the Brooklyn Philharmonic and also performed it with the New World Symphony.
Mrs. Chen has participated in chamber music performances at the Aspen Music Festival, Tanglewood Music Center, Marlboro Festival, and with the Boston Symphony Chamber Players. She studied with Jascha Brodsky and Arnold Steinhardt at The Curtis Institute of Music.
Mrs. Chen is both Head of Strings and a faculty member of the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. In addition to being a former faculty member of the Boston Conservatory and the Round Top Festival, she has coached at The Juilliard School, New England Conservatory, and DePaul University. -
