At the awakening ceremonies Wednesday, drummers drummed from the rooftops and clangors clanged from loudspeakers, introducing 17-year-old Jessica Chen, a member of the graduating class at Webb School of Knoxville and a principal with the local Chinese American Community of Dancers, who then led the crowd up to the moment Mayor Ashe struck the gong, signaling two dragon boats to streak down Fort Loudoun Lake in front of the crowd.
