Dr. James Y. P. Chen, M.D. Director of TCM
Dr. Chen graduated from Peking Union Medical School (PUMC) and later attended the University of California Medical School & Charity Hospital, New Orleans for postgraduate work in Pharmacology and Tropical Medicine on a World Health Organization (WHO) Senior Fellowship.
Dr. Chen has published more than 50 research papers in medical journals and was on the editorial board of the American Journal of Chinese Medicine and the American Journal of Acupuncture. In addition, he was one of nine members serving on the National Institute of Health (NIH) ad hoc Committee on Acupuncture. As the only member of ethnic Chinese descent he was invited by the NIH to write specific chapters in acupuncture and pharmacology books, Medicine and Public Health in the People's Republic of China, No. NIH 72-87, and Acupuncture Anesthesia in the PRC, No. 75-769.
After 60 years of active teaching, research and practice in different fields of medicine, Dr. Chen semi-retired in April 2000, in Huntington Beach, California. Because of his interest in longevity and preserving the quality of life, he presently serves as TCM Director for the Overseas Institute of Aging (OCIOA).
