Prior to Shasta , Chen was VP of technology at Cisco Systems where he led the company's multi-service access concentrator product development , and was a member of Cisco's Service Providers Voice Strategy and Technologies panel.Chen founded five successful networking industry companies , including Shasta Networks ( acquired by Nortel Networks ) , Ardent Communications Corporation , ( acquired by Cisco Systems ) , Cascade Communications ( acquired by Ascend Communications ) , Arris Networks ( acquired by Cascade ) , Cameo Communications , and Communications Equipment Corporation ( acquired by AT&T/Paradyne ) .He served as founder and Vice President of Engineering at Cascade Communications , where he guided Cascade through IPO and on to the company's peak of a nearly $ 10 billion market cap.

Mr. Chen was featured in a front-page column of the Wall Street Journal on June 3 , 1999.
