  CHEN CHUNMING was the Director of the International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI) Focal Point in China from its establishment in 1993 till January 2004.The organization seeks to improve public health in China by addressing scientific issues relating to nutrition and food safety.Prior to working with ILSI, Professor Chen was the founding President of the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine (now the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention), as well as the Director-General of the Department of Health and Epidemic Prevention of the Ministry of Health of China.In addition to public health activities in China, Professor Chen also participates actively in international nutrition activities.She has been a board member of GAIN (Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition) since 2002, as well as a member of the Reference Group for WHO Global Strategy on Diet, Physical Activity and Health for NCD Prevention.
