   "We expect sales to fall 5 to 7 percent after smoking is restricted," said Paul Chemama, the national sales director for Altadis, which claims a 25 percent market share with the cigarette brands Royal, Gauloise, Fortuna and News. Cultural and legal factors, and even the climate, he said, mean the ban will have a different effect in France than in other countries that have already prohibited smoking in public places. "The warm climate of Italy and Spain actually makes it quite pleasant to smoke outdoors," Chemama said.
