   Laura Chellman, R.N., is director of the student health service at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (UW-EC). According to Chellman, most students use the health service at least once during their college careers.
   
   In addition to providing health care, student health services can save students and parents time and money. For example, Chellman points out that many state colleges and universities offer students free immunizations. "UW-EC's health service also provides a self-care cold clinic that gives students a role in their own health care while still offering full medical support. And it's much cheaper than an emergency room visit," Chellman says.
