    WHEREAS, Carole Chellis was born in the Borough of Middlesex, attended local schools and was hired as the first professional reference Librarian of the Public Library of the Borough of Middlesex in 1972; and

    WHEREAS, after serving with great distinction in said position, she was then appointed as the Director of the Library in December of 1982; and

    WHEREAS, there were several major accomplishments that occurred during her stewardship of the library; and

    WHEREAS, she was instrumental in automating the library and brought computers and internet connections to the library and helped bring the library into the 21st century, but kept the card catalogue for those patrons who were not familiar with the new system; and

    WHEREAS, she helped introduce new programs into the library and made them available to residents of the Borough such as "recorded books", VCR's and DVD's, so that patrons could listen to and view books and pictures as well as read them; and

    WHEREAS, Carole also helped to increase the number of "Large Print" books available for circulation to the Public in order to accommodate the needs of many of our senior citizens in the Borough; and

    WHEREAS, Carole supervised the transition during the library expansion program; and

    WHEREAS, Carole has always maintained a cheerful disposition when dealing with the public and has made visiting the library an enjoyable experience for those who do so; and

    WHEREAS, for these and countless other reasons, and because she has decided to retire from her position as the full time Director of the Middlesex Public Library, the Governing Body of the Borough of Middlesex wishes to recognize her outstanding abilities and wishes to honor her for the work she has done for the library and for the residents and taxpayers of the Borough of Middlesex.

    NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Middlesex, County of Middlesex and State of New Jersey that Carole Chellis is hereby recognized as one of the Outstanding Citizens of the Borough of Middlesex and is hereby awarded the Outstanding Citizen Award by the Governing Body of the Borough of Middlesex.

    Mayor Dobies awarded Carole Chellis the Outstanding Citizen Award and thanked her for her many years of dedicated service.
