School Board Chairman Alan Chell said one thing the provincial government needs to address is funding support for education expenses that are subject to inflation. "One of the biggest concerns that school districts had in the last few years," Chell said, "is funding increased expenses we had over things we have no control over." Some of those "inflationary expenses" include electricity and heating bills, costs for basic resources like stationery and textbooks, and staff salary increases approved by the provincial government but always fully covered by the annual support fund approvals. "If we're not funded for inflationary costs," Chell said, "then the dollars for the classrooms shrink."
