   IZA Logo Walid Cheikho, born 1965, studied law in Aleppo (Syria) in 1983 while working as an elementary school teacher. He then worked as a civil servant for the Department of Legal Affairs at the Syrian Ministry of Communications in Damascus. During his military service from 1989 to 1991, he was trained in mechanical engineering. From 1992 to 1993, he was head of the Department of Nationalization and Legal Affairs at the Central Office of Road Construction of the Ministry of Communications in Aleppo.
   
   In 1993, Walid Cheikho immigrated to Germany, where he completed his training in information systems at the IT training center in Paderborn, Germany, in 1998. From 1997 on, he concentrated increasingly on IT networks and worked for the adult education center in Soest as a system administrator and lecturer for IT courses. In 1999, he worked for Actebis (Soest, Germany) in the fields of first-level customer support and server administration.
   
   In 2000, he was self-employed (in such areas as software development, system consulting, and network solutions) in Bonn, while giving courses in server administration at the Cologne adult education center with a focus on SQL, MS Exchange and NT Servers.
   
   Walid Cheikho joined IZA as an IT Specialist in October 2000 and is now responsible for internal IT support and network administration.
