  Falls Church, VA- Inova Fairfax Hospital is proud to announce that hospitalist Chaig Cheifetz, MD, has been named "Young Internist of the Year 2005" by the Virginia Chapter of the American College of Physicians.
  
  Dr. Cheifetz is the co-section chief for general internal medicine for the Department of Medicine at Inova Fairfax Hospital.He also serves as the assistant dean of medical education for the Inova Fairfax Hospital Campus of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).He is one of only 100 physicians trained and licensed by Stanford University School of Medicine to train physicians in how to become better educators.In just six years of practice, Dr. Cheifetz has received two Golden Apple Awards for excellence in teaching and is listed as a Harvard-Macy Scholar of the Leaders in Medical Education Program.
  
  The Inova Fairfax Hospital Campus of VCU welcomed its inaugural class of 24 students in August of this year.This is the first regional branch campus in all of Northern Virginia.
  
  "Dr. Cheifetz played a critical role in our efforts to be the first to welcome a medical school campus to Northern Virginia," says Douglas P. Cropper, administrator, Inova Fairfax Hospital, Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children and Inova Heart and Vascular Institute.

  Dr. Cheifetz received his Doctor of Medicine from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1995.He completed his residency at the Georgetown University Medical Center.
  
  He will be honored on the evening of Friday, Oct. 7 during the annual Virginia Chapter of the American College of Physicians Meeting held in Roanoke.

  Craig Cheifetz, MD, is the assistant dean for the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine Inova Campus and the director of undergraduate medical education for Inova Health System.In addition to his academic roles, Dr. Cheifetz was recently appointed as director of the Inova Executive Health Center, an innovative program designed to meet the needs of strategic companies and their key executives.He also serves as co-chief of the Internal Medicine Section, Department of Medicine, Inova Fairfax Hospital.
  
  Dr. Cheifetz received his internal medicine training at Georgetown School of Medicine.He has been an integral part of Inova Fairfax Hospital and Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children and its medical staff since completing his chief residency seven years ago.His primary interest is as a clinical educator, having completed both the Stanford Faculty Development Facilitators program for Clinical Teaching and the Harvard-Macy Program for Leaders in Medical Education.He was instrumental in the formation of the successful faculty development program within the Department of Medicine at Inova Fairfax Hospital, having trained more than 110 clinicians in the area of clinical teaching.
  
  Dr. Cheifetz is a nationally sought after lecturer in the area of clinical teaching skills.He has received numerous awards and was recently presented the Top Young Internist Award by the American College of Physicians for the Commonwealth of Virginia.
