Dmitry Cheglakov graduated from the Moscow State Conservatory in 1993, studying cello with Alexander Fedorchenko, Natalia Shakhovskaya, and Dmitry Miller, and composition with Albert Leeman. The year prior, he won First Prize (duet section) at the International Chamber Music Competition in Casale Monferrato, Italy, and in 1998, received a scholarship to the Darmstadt Courses of New Music. Beginning in 1999, Cheglakov took an interest in electronic-related music, leading him to begin studying the electric guitar, and to create a home studio for his own compositional projects.
Cheglakov is an active participant the Russian New Music scene, participating regularly in several contemporary music festivals, both as a cellist and composer. These include the Moscow Autumn festival, the Alternativa Festival, and the Passions-2000 Project. He is a frequent collaborator with and colleague of such active composers as Vladimir Nikolayev, Tatiana Mikheyeva, and Iraida Yusupova - whose music is likewise featured here at the Classical Archives, and where Mr. Cheglakov is a frequent soloist. In addition, Cheglakov has participated in numerous international chamber music festivals in Russia and Western Europe. Significant Russian concerts include recitals in the Rachmaninov Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, every year since 1999. Currently, Mr. Cheglakov is principal cellist in Yury Bashmet's "New Russia" Symphony Orchestra.
Cheglakov's contributions to the Classical Archives include a wide variety of works, ranging from Schumann, Hindemith, and Shostakovich to his own recent compositions - including several featured on the CD "Destructive Flower," such as "Sarabande-2000," "Rust," and "CIS-Conversation About Madhouse."
