Gari is a partner with Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. Prior to joining the firm, Gari was President and Chief Executive Officer of Kinzan, Inc., a San Diego-based web services software company, which he joined in 1999. During his tenure at Kinzan, he was involved in all aspects of the company's operations, from securing $40 million in venture capital funding to preparing for an initial public offering.
From 1997 to 1999, Gari was Executive VP and Chief Financial Officer of Encanto Networks, where he managed the raising of over $50 million in venture capital, negotiated strategic relationships with several Fortune 100 companies, and oversaw all the company's legal affairs and corporate development activities.
Prior to his work at Encanto, Gari was a partner in the Palo Alto office at Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison. Gari has broad experience in the general corporate representation of high-growth technology companies, public corporations, venture capital, private equity firms, and investment banks. He has represented a wide variety of companies-ranging from start-ups to Fortune 500s-in hundreds of transactions. Gari has worked on more than 75 mergers and acquisitions, 100 public offerings in equity and convertible securities for issuers and underwriters, and 200 private financings for companies, venture capitalists, private equity firms, and investment banks. His representative public companies included Polycom, Microchip Technologies, Intevac, and Cisco Systems, each of which he represented from early startup through IPO and as large public companies. As part of Gari's representation of Cisco, he was involved at all stages of the company's growth, including implementing the company's aggressive acquisition strategy and acted as counsel to their first 15 transactions. He has represented many of the leading venture capital investors and investment bankers, including Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers; Sequoia Capital; Accel Partners; Mayfield; Redpoint (fka IVP); NEA; Mohr Davidow; Sierra Ventures; Menlo Ventures; Goldman Sachs; CSFB; Morgan Stanley; Merrill Lynch, Lehman Brothers; and JP Morgan Chase & Co.
Gari earned a J.D. degree from Stanford Law School in 1983 and two B.S. degrees, with honors, from Arizona State University in 1980. He is a member of the State Bar of California and the American Bar Association as well as the State Bar of Colorado. Gari is currently the Chairman of the Board of the San Diego Software Industry Council and serves on the board of directors of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation.
