   Neither Al Hutin, president of the New Castle Historical Society, nor Benjamin Cheever, a former editor at Reader's Digest, could confirm that the stone house was once the Reader's Digest library.
   
   Cheever questioned why the company would have housed a library so far from the main building, especially since it has a chestnut-paneled library of its own.
   
   Most likely, the stone house was one of several the Wallaces purchased as auxiliary guest homes. The Wallaces were known for their generosity and often offered guests and employees a place to spend the night, Cheever recalled.
